Both are key players in a successful online marketing strategy. SEO can’t take place without content be optimized, like how it was 5 years ago.

Dofollow links won’t bear fruits as they used to

In the past, SEO was dominated by ‘dofollow’ links. The ‘nofollow’ links were almost ignored by Google. Back in those days, whoever had the most number of links automatically got to climb the ladder and reach the top of the search result pages.

Quality of the content supersedes number of links

This quick link attitude also applied to your content. You were asked to submit articles to as many article directories as possible. What you wrote didn’t even matter as long as you got a link to your website in the resource box.  But now the times have changed and these rules no longer apply. Today, Google is smart enough to find and punish low quality content. That means the content which is ‘stolen or copied from somewhere else is of no use as it isn’t going to rank well in the search engines. And do you know what does that mean? It means that all those lousy articles you exploded to get a bunch of easy links have come down to haunt you back. Want a way out of it? All you need right now is a flow of high-quality content which will help you reach at the top of the rankings.

Productive links through qualitative affiliations

These changes have given SEO a completely different spirit that it did a few years back. As long as search engines exist, there has to someone reaching at the top. The only difference today is that the search engines are actually judging you based on the quality of your content. For instance, if you publish an interesting post on a good website in your niche, you will have a link pointing at your site. Now, when people syndicate your post on their sites, you will end up with a lot of quality links pointing at your site. You see that you are still building a pile of links, but in a different way as you did some years ago.

The only thing you have to keep in mind for your SEO strategy to be successful is that you have to focus on a good content marketing strategy. If you ignore the quality of your content, then those search engines are going to ignore you.
